Dental Hygiene |
| |
Our practice emphasises the importance of preventative care and education with a view to enabling our patients to avoid the need for extensive and sometimes costly dental treatment at a later date. Regular visits to our highly skilled hygienists will significantly reduce the levels of plaque build up and thus slow down or eliminate the onset of gum disease. In addition to having a regular thorough clean our hygienists will also talk to you about techniques you can adopt and cleaning products you can use in your own home as part of your daily routine which will help in the battle against gum disease
We currently have 2 hygienists who work on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and we use the most up to date technology available in order to make this service as effective as possible.

Fissure Sealants |
| |
Particularly useful for children this extra layer of protection can aid in the fight against plaque. A sealant is a thin, plastic film that coats the chewing surface of the back teeth. Sealant protects the teeth from decay.
|
| |
Bite Guards |
| |
For those who habitually grind or clench their teeth this protective guard will act as a useful defence tool in the fight against wear and tear of your teeth thus keeping them in better condition and reducing the damage done. |

Fluoride Applications |
| |
Covering the teeth in a layer of fluoride will help in the fight against decay. Fluoride can be administered by three different methods. The first method involves the application of fluoride solution. This type of fluoride must be painted on the teeth with a cotton tip applicator. The second method of fluoride application is the use of a concentrated fluoride rinse. The third method is the tray technique, which is used to apply fluoride gels. Gel application is generally regarded as the most effective means of topical fluoride treatment |

| Fillings |
| |
Fillings are used to literally fill a dental cavity "hole" in the tooth caused by tooth decay. There are two types of filling. A dental amalgam (a silver filling) is made up of mercury, silver, copper, tin. A composite resin (a white filling) is made of various plastics and filled with glass. We advocate the use of white fillings generally because firstly they look similar in colour to your other teeth and also because there is less toxicity than with metal. |

Crowns |
| |
Crowns are a common form of restoration for broken teeth. They are a tooth shaped covering that strengthens the teeth a lot more than a filling. Crowns are also used to hold a dental bridge in place. |

|
| |
Bridges |
| |
Bridges are fixed in place where a tooth has been lost and are often an alternative to a partial denture. A bridge is constructed by having a crown either side of the dental space and then joining them together with a false tooth. The bridge is then cemented in place. |

Dentures |
| |
Dentures are removable replacement teeth made of plastic or porcelain. Dentures can be "partial" if they replace only a few missing teeth or "full" if they replace all the teeth. |

Root Canal Treatment |
| |
Root canal therapy involves cutting into the root canal (the hollow centre of the tooth which holds the pulp) and removing the infected pulp. The hole left is then filled with an inert material. |

Tooth Whitening |
| |
This is a procedure to make the tooth colour whiter and removes any staining on the surface of the tooth. This is generally done at home using a whitening product input onto a custom made plastic tray which fits around the teeth. Normally the gel is applied once a day for an hour or so and the whole process takes approximately 2 - 3 weeks depending on the shade desired. |

Nervous Patients |

| |
We pride ourselves on our reputation with previously-nervous patients. We believe we can put everyone - adults as well as children - at ease and make them feel comfortable enough to undertake treatment. Nora has attended various courses on this subject and has studied methods such as acupuncture and hypnotherapy and in certain circumstances these are options which more nervous patients could consider taking advantage of in the surgery. |

Children |

| |
- Parental Guidance - This is important especially for very young children
- Positive Experiences - We attach a lot of importance to giving young children a positive experience at their first visits to the dentist. This will help to encourage them to visit regularly in the future and to view it as an important part of their overall health care going forward through adulthood.
- Interactive Sessions - between children, parents and a team member at the Practice
- Prevention and Cleaning Advice - This can be both for the child and the parents. If you have any questions regarding your children’s dental development don't hesitate to come and see us.
As mentioned previously we see children on NHS and this constitutes the bulk of our NHS contract. |
